2019 STAND DOWN

Stand down flyer 2019-3 REVISED

3/7/19 MESSAGE FROM PAT FARRELL

This is an FYI for many of you that have to justify your presence. The final report will be on Wednesday, May 8th at 6;00 PM. The Sunridge Assisted Living home will be the location, 839 Landon Dr, Bullhead City.

Veterans in attendance- 284 an increase of 16 from 2018.
Self-identified homeless veterans- 48 an increase of 20 from 2018.

The increases are attributable to a massive media blitz and increased trust in the reputation of the event.
The HUD VASH program is already working to house 8 of the reported homeless veterans. Great job!

I am pleased to announce the the general overall health of the veterans has improved. Of the 71 tested for Hep-C NONE had the disease.

Job opportunities were abundant but very few takers. There are over 1,200 vacant jobs in Mohave County and training is readily available. If the veteran does not have a job they need to check in with DES and AZ@Work. Well paying opportunities are available in the Kingman Airport Industrial Park with more to follow. Veterans bring a lot of the knowledge, skills and abilities that employers are seeking. Now is the time to start taking advantage of this opportunity.

All of our providers, guests, resources and pet services have made a difference. THANK YOU!

We will be transitioning to half day resources fairs but it will be at the direction of the Mayor and his staff. More will be announced on this change as information becomes available.

Special thanks go out to the following: (Not that all of you don’t deserve it but these groups went above and beyond)

The City of Bullhead, Parks and Rec (the park was great)
The BHC Chamber of Commerce (why they tolerate us I don’t know)
The Arizona Veterans Stand Down Alliance (underwriters)
The Arizona Department of Veterans Services (Veterans support)
Lions and MSTEPP (Hep-C tests)
The Elks Kitchen Crew and Royce from Sub-Zero for stepping up when our Chief Cook suffered a Heart Attack two days prior to the Stand Down. George is recovering fast and we wish him well.
The JAVC Logistics Crew(Wow)
And last but not least, Retired Mayor Jack Hakim who was the driving force for this event at it’s inception.

I look forward to seeing you on May 8th.
